As a food truck, we serve hundreds of customers each week, which means we go through a lot of single-use packaging. Being mindful of our environmental impact has always been important to us, which is why we're excited to announce our new sustainable packaging initiative.
The food service industry has long relied on petroleum-based plastics, styrofoam, and other non-biodegradable materials for convenience. These materials can take hundreds of years to break down and often end up in landfills, waterways, and natural environments.
Even when disposed of properly, traditional food service packaging creates a significant carbon footprint during both production and disposal. As a business focused on quality and sustainability, we knew we needed to do better.
After months of research and testing, we're transitioning to a fully sustainable packaging program that includes:
All our food containers are now made from plant-based materials that fully break down in commercial composting facilities within 90 days. They're made primarily from bagasse (sugarcane fiber), a by-product of sugar production that would otherwise be discarded.
We've replaced plastic wrap and foil with FSC-certified paper wraps treated with plant-based waxes. These provide the same food safety and protection while being fully compostable.
Instead of plastic forks, knives, and spoons, we now provide wooden cutlery made from sustainably harvested birch. These break down naturally and don't leave microplastics behind.
For our cold drinks, we've switched to durable paper straws that resist getting soggy but still break down completely after use.
We've also partnered with Denver Compost Collective to ensure our packaging actually gets composted rather than ending up in a landfill. Look for our clearly marked composting bins at all our locations, and please help us by disposing of your waste accordingly.
While sustainable packaging does cost a bit more, we believe this investment is worthwhile. By making this change, we'll prevent approximately 2,500 pounds of plastic waste from entering the environment each year.
We're not passing this cost on to our customers through higher prices. Instead, we're absorbing it as part of our commitment to serving food that's good for both people and the planet.
When you visit our truck, please:
Thank you for supporting our sustainability efforts. We're always open to suggestions, so if you have ideas about how we can reduce our environmental impact further, please let us know!
